Biography

Alan Hobscheid creates subtle, cryptic landscapes that emphasize the characteristic geography, history, and soul of places he has explored.  Hobscheid works primarily in oils and watercolors on various supports including paper and copper.  He uses limited palettes of atypical color schema in multiple layers applied with various techniques, such as knifework and hammering or  dry pigments spread directly into medium, to produce distinctive surfaces and tones.

Hobscheid has shown in numerous exhibits, including two-person shows in Evanston, Illinois and South Bend, Indiana.  He has recently been accepted into both the 19th and 20th Annual Regional Juried Exhibition at the Freeport Art Museum, Evanston + Vicinity Biennial at the Evanston Art Center, the Midwest Jewish Arts Lab through the Spertus Institute, and Sweet Home Chicago at the Bridgeport Art Center.  Internationally, he has participated in group shows including the Third Jerusalem Biennale for Contemporary Jewish Art and the Institut für Alles Mögliche in Berlin.
